Introduction

Shenyang Red River Centre was founded in February 1998. The centre is located in Shenyang, the capital city of Liaoning province in northeast China. It is a joint educational organization operated by SHENYANG INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING (SIE), formerly SHENYANG ELECTRIC POWER INSTITUTE (SEPI), of Liaoning, China and RED RIVER COLLEGE (RRC) of Manitoba, Canada. The Centre, which is administered by an efficient and supportive Chinese staff, offers both full and part time classes by qualified and dedicated language teachers from English speaking Countries, primarily Canada, the U.S.A and England.

The Centre sits on the campus of SIE in two new four story buildings, which combine classrooms, offices, and teachers¡¯ apartments. The Centre is equipped with multi-media teaching aids, on-line computers, and the latest IT equipment. A wide range of methods combined with audiovisual material are used. In many classrooms teachers use ¡°seminar seating¡± to facilitate oral communication and discussion.

Students come to SRRC to develop their study and English language skills in all areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing. A majority of SRRC students prepare themselves to international study. SRRC has its alumni all over the world.

The Centre provides spacious and comfortable living quarters that are serviced by our friendly cleaning staff. Social activities and cultural visits are often organized for the entertainment of the foreign teachers. Our English-speaking Chinese staff conscientiously strives to assist foreign teachers in meeting the new challenges they may encounter due to cultural differences and the differences in the working environment.
